Why do you want to visit China?

So guys, it looks like a lot people over here want to visit China no matter what. I'm just curious to know your reasons I have never been there, but I've heard so many things about this country (mainly thanks to this forum!). I like so many things about the chinese culture, like for example their traditional medicine. I'm a firm believer accupuncture really works! I know because my mom wasn't capable to get pregnant, until she tried acupuncture (with a good doctor who went to study to china, he specialized in traditional chinese medicine).

I think China has a lot amazing things to offer... it's a pitty their goverment does nothing to stop the way a lot big companies are polluting their own country. Such a pitty! I'd love to visit this country to learn more about the traditional chinese medicine Science is backing up acupuncture!

So... what are your reasons to visit China? Why do you want to do it?

It has changed so much over the last decade. In some ways it is more advanced than western countries, particularly the train service. The long distance trains travel extremely fast and are more luxurious than first class trains in the UK. What i like best though is that the subway trains have air-conditioning! Go to the subway in london during summer and you will risk passing out in the carriage

People travel to China for several reasons -business and vacation purposes. I like to travel to China because it is my home country, which is where I grew up. Another reason is the cuisine, which is more authentic and traditional. I like going shopping in China because it is so much convenient, which I don't have to drive all the time.

Ow, wow, really? Are you still living there or are you living somewhere else right now? What is like to grow up in China? I've heard so many things about China, you'd be amazed at the quantity of new chinese immigrants we have over here! There are some many chinese folks over here now.. I totally love eating at this chinese food restaurant named ''China City''; best chinese food buffet in town! TOTALLY amazing!

Damn, I had no idea things were like that in London! I was in Norway and their transport system was excellent there; all the luxury and comfort you need at the reach of your finger tips. I thought the transport system was like that everywhere in Europe.

Yeah, they're so good at creating and making business successful, aren't they? We have so many chinese food restaurants over here, and most of them have been super successful I just love eating at this one place named ''China city''. They have an excellent buffet, but sadly I can no longer eat as much as I could before! Now I must avoid having dinner or breakfast if I want to go there for lunch next saturday

Well aside from my interest in china's arts and history, I am a fan of Kung Fu since I was a kid. Since then I was always wondering how is it there in China, where the said martial art has originated if I am not mistaken.

Hehehe, yeah, who doesn't nowadays, right? I think most of the stuff I have at home is made in China... excepting for my clothes Most of them are made in my country, but I agree with you... seeing that place would be interesting. Chinese people are very creative, and their country is really worth visiting at least once. I always thought I could make great business there if I only had more cash to invest.

Thanks for sharing the link I'll take a look at it!

Re: Why do you want to visit China?

I would like to visit China just to see if many of their traditional cities are preserved as I remember to have seen them in movies either from the Hollywood Classic era, or in Kung Fu movies.

Cities or towns where the most pure Chinese traditions were preserved. I have seen, in example, Beijing in the news, and this city looks everyday more like any regular city here in Occident.

Probably there are typical places still, but this is exactly what I would like to discover.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I feel the same way towards japan, I totally like japan and its culture, but I think most city are way too modern and they have all left the traditional side of it behind. Hopely you can find some nice places to visit in China, at least a few ''traditional'' spots far away from occidental influence.

Hahaha, I think we both know why is that :P But yeah, I try to avoid chinese clothes as much as I can, mostly because I want to support the market of my own country by not buying chinese clothes, plus we both know the quality might not be that good... not with those low prices

Re: Why do you want to visit China?

I hear they have some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in China. If one is allowed to visit such places then these are the only places I'd like to visit in China. I'm kind of interested in the religion of the Chinese [Taoism, Buddhism and so on] and the best way to learn about them is by speaking the monks.

Re: Why do you want to visit China?

You could do that online as well Just kidding! I think the best way to learn more about those religions (at least in depth) is by going to that place and get immersed. I think is completely possible to visit those monasteries, you might need to talk with someone first. But I'm sure those monks would be more than happy to show you the place and talk about their religion. They're very peaceful and kind people... their beliefs are so nice!

Best of luck with that I'm kinda nervious to plan future holidays because I'll be traveling soon and this trip will leave a HUGE hole in my pocket. Good luck visiting China Be careful with the food if you ever go there. This place must be a great place to find some really good deals and maybe do some business. I wish I could go, I would like to start a business online and would love to be in touch with chinese manufacturers Best way to do that is going to China.

Re: Why do you want to visit China?

I've been to China once, for vacation only. I loved it and I would definitely go back to tour the other parts. I want to go back to see the Great Wall and the other Buddhist churches. I also want to go back for the bargain shopping and roam around their local markets. I love Chinese food as well, but where I went the food didn't seem to have taste. Haha! And I wanted authentic Chinese food. I also want to experience the product expos for business one day. Everything seems to be in China!

Wow, you ate the local food and survived it? You must have a really tough stomach, because I heard that eating at local restaurants can be a bit risky. Mostly because of the different counterfeit products and so on. If it was me I'd only eat at places like Subway or Burger king (those places seem to offer better safety standards when it comes to the origin of the food and the way it was handled).

I still wish to check the local Chinese markets one day Yes, despite the food risks

You think Subway or Burger king will be better if other restaurants is "risky" ?
Believe me, you will be fine, but don't go to the dirty restaurants.

Yeah, big chain restaurants should be fine! Specially Subway and Burger King, since those are big international chain restaurants. I'd stay away from other restaurants, specially the street stalls and only drink bottled water. I'd also avoid consuming eggs and dairy over there, just in case!
