    Traveling to Xinjiang

I've been thinking about making a (we like to call it the "epic" journey) trip from Western China across the Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan) and eventually end up somewhere on the European side of Russia. Has anyone here done something like this before?

I am really interested in history and the stories of the Silk Road just fire my imagination. Would like to know if it is possible to cross from Xinjiang over to Uzbekistan with minimum hassle, for example.

    Thanks!

This journey will be extreme tourism and one good idea is to go via Trans-Siberian Railway. This 7 day journey starts from Vladivostok which is sort of east from China till Moscow. It approximately takes 7 days and you will have the option to go through Mongolia and other countries. I have not done it personally but saw 1 hour documentary about this great journey.
