    Healthcare in Germany

Most european countries have a good health care, I think. I've heard a lot amazing things about the health care they have in Scandinavia (first hand experiences too!), but surprisingly enough I haven't heard a thing about the german one. This question is directed to those living in Germany or people who have friends or relatives there and know what the health care is like over there. I'd like to visit this place with my soon-to-be husband soon, and would like to know how well prepared they are over there.

Health care in Germany is good as well I must say. Germany has a strict policy when it comes to health insurance, so everytime you need to go to a doctor you do not need to worry about an immediate cash out because this will always cover the expenses. And I find this system really efficient.

However I heard that when it comes to other area of health approach like surgery or any operations, you have to be a little bit careful, it is always recommendable to have second opinion if your doctor told you that you need to be operated.

Why is that so? Well, logically doctors or hospitals earn from your insurance, usually if you will do such procedures that means they could get more money as well from your designated insurance. I do not say that this is true to all doctors or hospitals here in Germany, but I knew some people who experienced this personally. So never do such procedure without consulting other doctors unless it is an emergency that needs to be done.

I hear what you're saying! A lot doctors over here are really interested in the money, so much they will operate even if it isn't that necessary. I'm actually a bit upset about the fact they removed my gallbladder, and it might not have been that necessary to do so. I guess it's to late to feel sorry about it, because I'll not get my gallbladder back anyway. I try to see the positive side of it tho... at least now I have almost no appetite, lol. So keeping myself thin in the future shouldn't be hard

Thanks for sharing! It's good to know this kind of things happen there, I will assume this could happen in the Netherlands as well.

I don't live in Germany, but I have heard that Germany, along with Cuba, are the two countries with the best health care services.

Of course, each country has its own regulations and you should always learn in advance what to expect and what are the requisites or paperwork needed to receive medical attention in such countries, but I think the time involved in researching such facts is always worth.

I heard Cuba is great as well, which is a very interesting contrast considering the way their people live and how many preffer to run away! I was told Cuba has a really advanced health care, and the best doctors. It's really hard to imagine for me!

    Re: Healthcare in Germany

First of all i want to say that German health care system is quite good enough. Every country has its own regulations and policy. German government has its own. You haven't mention that where are you living? German government's health insurance policy is different for EU citizens and overseas citizens. In Germany EU citizens can get health insurance under one condition, they have to provide my European Healthcare Insurance card. Oversea citizens have to get private health insurance.
