    Christmas markets in Germany?

What can be the best places to visit in Germany during Christmas. I have been searching on the net for a few websites but couldn't come to a conclusion. I really want to shop when i go there for Christmas.

Could I ask what you're looking to buy and shop for while you're at the Christmas markets and whereabouts you're going to be? I have never been, but when I was in Germany every one told me to go to the market in in Nuremberg. That said, I've been to the markets in Berlin, Heidelberg, and Mannheim and enjoyed them all immensely. Heidelberg, though small and quaint, was a great experience with a great view of the castle!

A friend of mine (from Bremen) told me the best places to go during Christmas are Munich, Dresden, Berlin and Nuremberg. Some things you could buy in the Christmas markets are the wonderful German cakes and desserts, wooden handmade souvenirs, glassware from Bavaria etc.

There is the Annual Stollenfest in Dresden, where a huge Stollen (a kind of cake) is paraded through the city on December 8 and then the Stollenmädchen (the Christmas beauty queen) will cut the first slice.

In Munich, you have to visit the Kripperlmarkt which specialized in Nativity figures.

And in Nuremberg, the Christkind (Christmas Angel) will open the market on the Friday before advent.

Unfortunately, I've never been to Germany, but I have been to the German-American Christmas markets here in the U.S.. There's a big one in Bethlehem (yes, really) Pennsylvania every year. The word you want to search for on Google is Christkindlmarkt. (Christ Child Market) Hope that helps!

I'd also love to go to a Christmas market in Germany - we have a good German market at Christmas time in the city that I live in most of the year, but a German market held in the UK really can't compare with the real thing. I'd never even thought of Nuremberg - I assumed the bigger cities would be better, but I must be mistaken!

Nuremburg is by far the most famous Weinachtsmarkt, I've been to it and it's pretty damn impressive, but every town has one, even if it's only for one night, and they all have something special to offer.

Berlin is overrated and I believe Stuttgrat is supposed to be amazing, but i haven't seen it myself (not at Christmas, anyhow).

    Bonn
    Koeln
    Bad Godesburg
    Trier
    Bernkastel-Kues
    Koblenz
    Erfurt
