Thread: What is there to see in Athens, Greece?

I don't know much about Greece except that its part of Europe and was once a ancient world power during its golden ages. I have a lot interest in greek mythology and it's epic history. I'm sure their are a lot of great sites to see in one of the oldest civilizations today, can anyone tell some good sites around Athens?

You are completely correct about that. The whole of the country develops interest in people about knowing more about it. In Athens we have the Parthenon , Hephaistion and Acropolis as the top tourist attraction in the cultural sites of Athens.

I'm a student of literature so Greece has always been a topic of interest for me. Much of civilization and culture as we know it had filtered down from the Greeks. Their history is fascinating! I'm definitely going to visit the place in the next 10 years. On my list of places to visit in Athens there would be the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Temple of Hephaestus, the Byzantine museum, Temple of Athena, Temple of Zeus...all these ancient ruins really excite me so these are what I'll make a beeline for. Then there is the city tour itself, its monasteries and museums. From what I've heard, Athens is a beautiful place, specifically for history and culture buffs.
