Wow! Thanks ever so much for creating this thread! I have a friend who lives in Japan who has nothing, but amazing things to say about it. I really can't even begin to comprehend how lucky he is for what an amazing experience the army has allowed him to have. I think the only thing that puts a kink in my day is the fact that he claims that they don't have starburst candies there. Darn it! But I still can't wait to visit there someday and enjoy real Japanese food to its fullest!

    Places To Dine In Tokyo

As Japanese food is my absolute favorite - I really want to go and visit the place in order to try authentic well prepared ones. I hear that you have to be ready to dole out a lot of cash in order to travel and enjoy. At the very least, try and learn some of the language - no matter how daunting the task may seem to be. It doesn't hurt to be able to converse a little since there are very few people who actually understand English and you might end up in the wrong side of town if you don't understand bits of it.

I would add Sukiyabashi Jiro, a Michelin 3 star restaurant to the list too. I remember watching a documentary on him last year and it was amazing. I definitely appreciate sushi more now!

Asparagus: Japanese cuisine mostly consists of sea food and for Vegetarian food i think you have to look for other type of restaurants like South Indian etc as they will be mostly having the food for Vegetarians only.
