    Has anyone lived in Japan?

It's one of the countries I'd really love to visit for a longer period. (1-2 years) Has anyone done this? Which city were you in and what kind of things should I take into account when I arrive? Ohh and is English enough for every day living in bigger cities?

Re: Has anyone lived in Japan?

I have lived in Tokyo for one month and it was not my best experience, this was around 10 years ago.

Most people in Tokyo do speak English, so I think you will be OK with that part. Just beware, the Japanese are mega-friendly, they always say yes to everything and some of them don't understand English very well, so if you are asking them something and they don't fully get it they just might keep saying yes.

I suggest that you arrange accommodation online before you arrive that was what I did and it went OK. Just be prepared because you pay high values for small spaces, we rented an apartment with 4 meters by 4 meters, a really small square where had to lived for one month. I think Tokyo might be one of the most expensive cities in the world.

If you want to know something else with further detail let me know I am glad to help.

I would love to live in Japan one day. I have always wanted to ever since I was little. The weather is great, rich culture and the people are respectful. I think going around would be easy as their transportation system is one of the best in the world.

I'm curious about this as well. My husband is in the Navy, and sometimes Japan pops up as a duty station choice. We've lived in Guam, just not Japan.

Japan is a great place for visitors. My few friends to live in japan. They told me that it is a wonderful place where you can have comfortable stay there. It offers a lot of incredible places to the visitors. I want to go there once of my life.

Re: Has anyone lived in Japan?

I'm living in Japan right now. My husband is here for work so we've already been here 2 years and have another 2 years to go at this stage. We live about 40 kilometres from Tokyo. If anyone has any questions I'd love to try and help - I've travelled around quite a bit of Japan already (over half of the prefectures and aiming to see them all before we leave!)
