    Flooding

Whenever I hear about The Maldives nowadays, it's in relation to the devastating effects global warming is having on the country, and the things their president is doing to raise awareness. For people who have recently visited - what is the situation on the ground there? Are there entire islands that are now flooded?

I've never been to the Maldives but I have a Maldivian friend named Mohamed who told me once about his situation. He's 27 years old and explains as he was growing up he was witness to rapid land loss due to excessive flooding and increasing water levels. Its ranked number 3 worst flooded countries and the get about 125 inches of rain annually if I'm not mistaken. The Maldivians are perpetually adapting to their situation, I even read once that the former President Nasheed even had plans to purchase lands from Sri Lanka and India as a result.

That's true. Due to the population density and the fact that the tiny islands have very little space or elevation, there is very little land to build up on. I have been to the Maldives for a few days and you could walk from one end of the capital city to the other in about 20 minutes. Everything was jam-packed into the tiny space. I can understand why the President wants to look for land in India and Sri Lanka for his people.

My sister and her hubby had enjoyed her honeymoon at there in the last year but I have not heard any of stuff like that from them. but seriously this is really a sad situation. The government should take necessary steps for this.

I must say that all of you talking about the Flooding here of Maldives. This country is not only facing this problem many other countries also face this and try to make this problem solution. I think the govt of this country aware the people about this and also try to take some step for this problem. Through this, this country can face less loss.
