    Cave of Swallows?

Apparently, Mexico has an extensive and beautiful amount of caves. One of them is an open pit called the Cave of Swallows. People base jump off of it. People have also died because of this cave.

Just curious if anyone has been adventurous enough to base jump the Cave of Swallows, or has gone to any other caves in Mexico. I also understand Mexico has a crystal cave, but that it is very dangerous.

    Anyone?

I have no idea where the cave you're talking about in this thread is, but I do know and have visited a subterranean cave very close to where I live It's named ''las grutas de nombre de dios''. This place is 10 minutes away from me by car! I think it's one of those crystal caves, and is a very popular touristic spot. It's really hot down there, but extremely beautiful!

Yes, it looks like one of those crystal caves. I heard some of them are very dangerous. That's pretty cool that you could go into that one and see it. I would love to see that up close and personal. So neat!

Yeah, I can't believe I haven't visited this place yet! They have tours and all! I rather not think about the danger tho, specially if I ever go... and those caves are so hot (I was told by a friend who works there), because they're actually quite So you really need to bring plenty of water during summer and spring! I might go with my boyfriend to this place

Cave of Swallows, known to as "El Sótano de las Golondrinas" is the most beauty place in the state of San Luis Potosí, but I have also heard of the beauty crystal formations in the Caves of Cacahuamilpa that are in a national park between the boundaries of the states of Morelos and Guerrero.

I found some information about them here, Cave exploration in Taxco | VisitMexico

However I have heard stories of the subterranean rivers in this place that are supposed to reach the cost of the Pacific ocean, but the few people who tried to adventuring into discovering what is the road that leads to the ocean died in the attempt.

Of course these stories come from the early 20th century, before the site were open the to visitors as a a local tourism attraction.

I've actually heard that quite a few people have died base jumping here. There even has been deaths as recent as 2009. I've heard that only the best and most experienced base jumpers should attempt this.

Still beautiful, though. I would love to go as a tourist group.

    I didn't know that MizzDeeDee!

No doubt those caves remain as a major challenge for the adventurer, but certainly it's safest go as a tourist group to enjoy, not to risk.

Wow, are you talking about ''el sotano de las golondrinas'' here or the caves in Taxco? Because I just googled this place, and it looks completely awesome!!!! I can imagine this place having subterranean rivers, how fascinating! Not sure I'd like to go that deep into this place tho. Just check this out:

This place looks like a mighty huge hole on the phase of our planet!!! There is no way I'd ever venture there, but thanks for sharing all that info. I'm actually fascinated by this kind of places, a big fan of geology here!

Back when I was visiting Mazatlan, we were on a cruise and we saw some interesting caves in the middle of the sea. I can't remember the name, but we were told this place was open to the public, but now entrance was forbidden. It seems a whole family of 5 tried to explore those caves by boat (crazy, huh!), well they surely came across something because they weren't seen ever again, but their bodies couldn't be found anywhere. Just thinking of that poor people in that cave... with those awful currents... what a horrible death. I'm so terrified by the sea and its deep waters... I can only imagine what their last minutes must have been like. Scares me and saddens me at the same time! It was the father's idea, I heard. He thought they could explore that place safely.
