    Healthcare in Mexico?

I know, I shouldn't think about these things, right? Unfortunately, I do. I just saw an article where an indigenous woman had to give birth on the hospital's front lawn because they decided she wasn't ready to give birth. Guess they were wrong?

Now, I don't expect Mexico to have the most premier healthcare in the world, but I do expect that if I ever go there that I won't die from poor healthcare if there is a medical emergency. Has anyone had any experiences going to a medical provider in Mexico? Was it a decent experience? Did you get the help you needed?

Hi DeeDee. I'm currently living in Mexico, I have private insurance, but sometimes that doesn't feel like it's enough. However, I'm 100% sure if I really need immediate medical attention... I WILL get it ASAP! Proving someone can drive me there, lol. This is something not many people living in Mexico can say, because most people have access to free health care (seguro social) but it's almost as bad as having no insurance! Seriously, a lot people have died waiting to get medical attention. I remember reading and seeing a video of a woman who was bleeding profusely tru her mouth... they refused to see her and made her wait for hours. She died before a doctor could see her.

That's awful, and exactly what I thought. Is there any reason it's like that? Is it too poor a nation to offer much? Does the government just not care that much? I couldn't believe that lady had to give birth on the front lawn of the hospital. They also said someone else had given birth on that same hospital lawn a few months before, I think.

    Re: Healthcare in Mexico?

Axtually Mexico has a lot resources, but the politicians only care about the money... so they couldn't care less about improving the way people live over there. Main problem in Mexico is corruption, and it's a never ending vicious circle. Yes, healthcare is free, but I'd NEVER accept to get a surgery done at one of those hospitals, with my free healthcare backing me up! I'd probably end up dead! Seriously, I know of a lady who got a blood transfussion and she got infected with HEP C. Another woman died after surgery because they forgot something inside her, NO kidding, I know the daughter of that woman.

Using the free health''care'' they offer in Mexico could cost you your life! I'm so grateful I don't have to use it, I had a surgery not so long ago, and everything went super well. I got to stay at one of the best hospitals... I had to share my room with just one person. But the people who have no choice but to use the free option... sometimes can't even have their own room, and have to sleep on stretchers right in the hospital's aisles. By the way, each floor usually has ONE bathroom! There are several people in just one floor because there is always a shortage of beds...
