    South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea is a country in East Asia. South Korea occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north. It’s equally known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old Buddhist temples, plus its coastal fishing villages, sub-tropical islands and high-tech cities such as Seoul. Here are the best places to visit in South Korea:

    1. Seoul
    Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea, forming the heart of the Seoul Capital Area, which includes the surrounding Incheon metropolis and Gyeonggi province, the world’s second-largest metropolitan area with over 25.6 million people. A fascinating blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge digital technology, home to endless street food vendors and vast nightlife districts, an extraordinarily high-pressure educational system and serene Buddhist temples, dynamic trend-setting youth culture and often crushing conformism, extraordinary architecture, and countless ancient archaeological sites, Seoul is a city filled with stark contrasts.

    2. Busan
    Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city and one of its most important ports. Located on the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula, Busan is well known for its beautiful beaches, hot springs, and its modern shopping districts. There are countless things to do in Busan, from visiting the iconic Jagalchi Fish Market to exploring the majestic Beomeo-sa Temple.

    3. Jeju Island
    Jeju Island is the largest island in South Korea and a popular destination for both locals and tourists. With its beautiful beaches, lush greenery, and volcanic landscape, it’s easy to see why Jeju Island is so popular. There are also plenty of attractions to explore, from the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak to the Manjanggul Lava Tube.

    4. Gyeongju
    Gyeongju is one of the most historically significant cities in South Korea and was once the capital of the ancient Silla Kingdom. As such, there are plenty of ancient sites to explore, such as the famous Bulguk-sa Temple and the Cheomseongdae Observatory. The city is also known for its cultural attractions, including the Gyeongju National Museum and the Gyeongju World Culture Expo Park.

    5. Andong
    Andong is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, located in the southeastern region of South Korea. It is known for its traditional culture and its connection to Confucianism, as it was once the home of the great Confucian scholar and philosopher Yi Hwang. Andong is also home to the Andong Hahoe folk village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    6. Suwon
    Suwon is the capital and largest city of Gyeonggi Province, located just south of Seoul. Suwon is an important industrial and cultural center, and is home to the historic Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can also explore the nearby Korean Folk Village and the Suwon Hwaseong Museum.

    7. Incheon
    Incheon is one of South Korea’s most important port cities, located on the country’s west coast. Incheon is home to the Incheon International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, as well as a variety of attractions, including Chinatown, Wolmido Island, and the Incheon Grand Park.

    8. Daegu
    Daegu is the third largest city in South Korea, located in the southeastern part of the country. Daegu is well known for its traditional markets, such as the Seomun Market, as well as its many parks and temples. The city is also home to the Daegu National Museum and the Daegu World Cup Stadium.

    9. Gwangju
    Gwangju is the sixth largest city in South Korea and the capital of South Jeolla Province. Home to the May 18th Democratic Uprising Memorial and the Gwangju National Museum, this city offers a wide range of cultural attractions. Visitors can also explore the nearby Mudeungsan Provincial Park, the Jogye Temple, and the Hwaeomsa Temple.

    10. Jeonju
    Jeonju is the capital of North Jeolla Province and one of the most important cities in South Korea. Jeonju is well known for its traditional hanok houses and its delicious cuisine. Visitors can explore the Jeonju Hanok Village, the Jeondong Catholic Church, and the Jeonju National Museum.
