Overall, Iran consists of 31 provinces, each governed by a local power called Governor-General, under supervision of the central government. All foreign embassies are located in the capital city of Iran.

The largest city and capital, Tehran, is home to nearly 9 million people, with a population density equal to 11,887 people per square kilometre. Almost all visitors start their Iran tour by going around Tehran megacity.

Tehran is filled with attractions both natural and man-made, shopping centres, top quality restaurants and spectacular landmarks. The city is one of the most populous cities in Middle East.

It would be irrational if such city doesnít have a modern and efficient transportation system. Among all, the subway system is more of use. It is used by millions of people every day, starting from 5:30 to 22:30, and covers almost all major areas in Tehran. Yet it is still developing for the time being.

If you are considering Iran as your next destination, you must obtain needed information about currency of Iran and how you can change your home country currency into it. Iranian Rial (IRR), is the official currency in Iran and it is mostly exchanged to USD, but Euro is also very common here.

As mentioned above, Iran is subdivided into 31 provinces, among which Tehran, Isfahan, Khorasan-e-Razavi, Fars and Khuzestan are the most popular destinations.

Reaching each area is possible by various means of transportation. Some cities are located close, while others are quite distant. All provincial capitals and some other major cities are connected by different domestic airlines such as Iran Air and Mahan. Prices of domestic airlines are quite reasonable, yet it should be noted that prices are highly fluctuant.

Moreover, passengers can use buses and trains at different rates, to get to their destinations. More than 20 companies with different qualities and rates, daily offer thousands of transportations to all over the country.

Mostly bus terminals are located at the edges of cities, for it will be more feasible to reach out the town and head the next destination. However, in megacities such Tehran or Isfahan, there are several terminals at different part of the city covering special destinations.

Still to get in the country you need to obtain Iran visa. So let us talk a little about visa policy of Iran. There are different types of Visas for entering Iran, but note that every foreigner visitor must obtain a visa.

All types of visas include entry visa, entry or driving visa for drivers carrying cargo, airport entry or transit visa, pilgrimage visa, tourist visa, transit visa, visa for entry to free trade and industrial areas of Iran, student visa, press visa, and diplomatic and service visa.

Among all, tourist visas are of more interest. This type of visa can be obtained both beforehand getting Iran, or at the internationals airports on passenger arrival. Citizen of some countries need no visa for staying a specific period, such as Armenia, Turkey, Malaysia and Georgia.
