    chogha zanbil

There is a lot to say when it comes to history. Most visitors chose Iran as their destination because of its rich historical background. Iran was once home to great dynasties, has been through prosperity, wars, difficulties and has experienced glory days.
History of civilisation in Iran, Persia, dates back to at least 4000 BC, when around that time the Elamites and the Medes inhabited lowlands of Iran, which is now known as Khuzestan province, and settled their first civil organisation around 2600 BC.
the most important province in Iran, both historically and politically, as you might have already guessed is Khuzestan province. It is historically outstanding because Iranian very first civil organizations were founded within this area, when the Elamite set up the foundations of their reign at the ancient city of Susa.

    Ziggurat of chogha zanbil

This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the most beautiful ancient monuments of Iran. The magnificent monument best epitomizes the Elamite-era architecture, and what is more impressive is the fact that the splendid structure contains the largest ziggurats in the ancient region of Mesopotamia. The Ziggurats had the shape of a terraced step pyramid, and the monument itself was basically stacked up stories which successively receded. Tons of adobes and thousands of bricks were used to build enormous structure. Among those countless bricks, some 5,000 of them contain inscriptions in Elamite language. The Elamites had built the monument as a temple for their gods. Despite its ancient age, the structure possesses many canals for drainage to protect it from heavy rain – now that’s something you might not expect from an ancient monument.
