    How To Learn Dutch Easily

Does anyone know of any good dutch audio course I could use to learn some dutch before my trip? I'd like to learn just the basic of the language and be able to keep a basic conversation with someone .Dutch seems to be such a challenging language, so please don't recommend any kind of text or grammar book, as I've never been able to learn a language with that kind of material! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Getting to know more about dutch

As you would be going for a short trip and wish to learn the basics only, i would suggest you to surf the internet for websites which could guide you about the language in such a way that you get the basics and donot have to face difficulties on your trip afterwards.

I think dutch is a really difficult language to learn, it's similar to German. I have studied a few languages and I have bought my material on Amazon. You can look it up there, they have a wide offer of simple books with audio tapes that are really helpful. Check out http://www.amazon.com/Dutch-Basic-Understand-Pimsleur-Language/dp/0671047787/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374860659&sr=8-1&keywords=learning+dutch"

Thank you for the answer! I just started to use the Pimsleur audio course It works great, but to be honest dutch is not that easy to learn, mostly because the pronunciation of this language is kinda confussing for me! Specially the famous dutch ''r'', that one is giving me so much trouble! This course is very nice because it teaches you the basics of dutch, and no books are needed

Oh my... dutch is even harder than german mostly because the weird pronunciation and spelling, I keep telling my husband his language sounds and looks crazy, lol! German makes way more sense to me than dutch I wish I had to learn german instead of dutch. Thanks for the answer Feels nice to meet another aspiring polyglot

I'm now trying the pimsleur audio course, I love it because you don't need a book to learn the language (isn't like I'll be asked to write dutch during my trip!); this course focuses on the audio and allows you to speak and pronounce the language right. Meaning no books are needed. Have you tried the pimsleur courses? They're really effective.

Re: How To Learn Dutch Easily

As a Dutchy myself I can say Dutch is really a though language to learn. Even "the Dutch" themselve are struggling with the grammar rules, which even change slightly every period. I have read somewhere a long time ago that because of the strange (for foreigns) pronounces and many grammar rules, that Dutch is one of the most difficult languages to learn worldwide.

It is nice for me to hear you are really trying to learn some Dutch words, but don't worry to much about it. English is a well spoken language in The Netherlands... and besides that German is also not a real problem. Because we are a small country, we are adopting to the languages around us. We get English, German and French at school. English is even a required exam at all schools. We start a toddler age consuming the first english words.

Good luck with the Dutch words!
(Although the last post is of July, so you probably are back from your trip already.)

Hi Xana!!! It's a pleasure to meet you ! I haven't travelled there yet; the plans have changed and I'll be going there on January. You're so right... Dutch is indeed a really hard language to learn! I have such a huge trouble with the pronunciation... I've noticed some words in dutch sound a lot like german, but are spelled in a completely different way! Like for example... ''mafrau'', it sounds like that, but I've no idea how to spell that!! It's tough!

My boyfriend is dutch as well He keeps telling me dutch is not that hard to learn, LOL! I'm like... right! I'm sure it's not that hard for him, but I'm sure I'll have such a hard time trying to learn this in the future. His parents are from Amsterdam... so his accent is a bit weird (doesn't sound at all like the one in my audio course!). I'm still struggling. Not sure if I'll be able to learn this language in the future.
