    What about Finland?

Has anyone visited? I have a friend who lives in Finland. She's originally from the UK, and seems to love it there. I wonder what's there to visit as a tourist. I know that they have excellent schools, and they are considered one of the best countries to live in. I'm wondering if anyone has vacationed there.

Yes I've been there. It's all about the nature to be honest, if you want museums and buildings etc then I don't think Finland is the place to go.
Summer you just take it easy at the summer cottage, enjoy the nature, go swimming and to the sauna etc. Winter is great for any activities related to snow.

I actually heard that they typically use saunas much like they would a shower in the states. Is this true? My friend said that's how they tend to take a shower there. I had never heard of such a thing.

Hi DeeDee! I have been in Norway (I lived there), and also been to Finland. I'll be quite frank with you... life over there is extremely calm and boring, and this country has very little to offer to most tourists, unless you're into heavy drinking and saunas :P It's a great place to live tho, very calm... a lot green areas. I like to pick berries and mushrooms in the forest :P Quite entertaining! It's really boring and grey during the winter tho... it's almost impossible to go out during that time. Not a problem for me tho, since I'm an introvert and I don't like to go out that much anyway :P

Not exactly, no. Sauna is just a part of the process, you need a shower (or more traditionally a lake, be it summer or winter) to actually clean yourself. Shower -> sauna -> shower. And repeat as many times as you feel like, preferably with a cold beer in your hand.

Ah, I see. Yeah, my friend is always talking about the saunas and how they are quite the big deal there. So, you bathe in the lake, and then you go to the sauna? That's so fascinating to me! It's so neat how things are so different in each country.

I've actually heard it's very pretty there, but cold a great deal of time. Is that right? A lot of snow?

The finns are proud of their saunas and for a good reason. They are incredibly amazing, I'll be sure to have on in my house at a later stage in my life.

It's very pretty, especially during the winter. The summers are warm-ish but yeah the winters can be very damn cold, especially in January and February.

Apart from Saunas you could go there in winter and visit Santa If you are a non believer then i suppose the other things you can do are to see the Aurora Borealis and wonder around helsinki. I have never been there but would be interested to go one day.
