Thread: What To Expect In a Swedish Sauna

Just want to have some first hand knowledge from the members of this Travel Forum that if any of them have experienced Sauna bath in Swedish. One of my friend was telling that Sauna is very famous in Sweden and Tourists and travelers enjoy it a lot .

What is it that make Swedish sauna so special that the people like and it a lot?

Well, it could be because saunas are extremely relaxing. They're also a place for social gathering, I once went there with several friends and we had a great time. Saunas are not only popular in Sweden, but in most of the scandinavian countries. I personally enjoyed it because I was with my friends, but the overall sauna experience wasn't so impressive.

First of all, the Sauna was actually invented in Finland. Though other nordic and baltic countries also have a lot of them, I've never seen the cultural effect being anything like it is in Finland. It's crazy, EVERYONE has a sauna in there. Apartment buildings have a shared sauna that the residents can use and some apartments even have their own tiny saunas!

What to expect? Sitting naked in a very hot room, preferably with a cold beer in your hand, talking with friends or strangers. It's great!

Wow! Thanks for the info, crimson! I had no idea the sauna had been invented there, I lived in Norway, and over there they don't go as far as having a shared sauna for each apartment building. It must be wonderful! At least I never saw one in my building, but not sure about the others.

Suana was invented in Finland. This is always relaxing. I went for public suana in Sweden. There was separation between male and female. Usually people are wrapping towels around them while taking bath and the temperature was very relaxing neither hot nor cold and relaxing the body. We really felt fresh after taking bath.
