    Full moon party

I remember being on the beach at Koh Phangan many years ago for the full moon paaarrrrttty. There were DJ's with huge speakers on the beach facing outwards towards the sea so as you cross the beach from one side to the other you get dance music, then an area of pop, then rap, drum & bass, etc..

Such a mad place. Has anyone been recently?

I haven't been to Koh Phangan since 2004 but when I went it was a wild party. At the time it was a half-moon party so those exist as well. Though I'm not sure how it compares to the full moon party. It is probably twice as wild with twice as many people. Maybe they do quarter moon parties too. Lunar eclipses must set the bar even higher I'd imagine!

I think traveling to Asia is more popular now, especially to Thailand. It is an easy place to backpack with lots to see and do. I am guessing there is a party there all the time so the local community can continue to live off the travellers expenses. Then on half and full moons more party goers make their way there for a big monster rave

I've heard about these so much. A couple of my friends went for one of these a few months back and said it was the coolest and wildest thing they've ever been to, haha. I've been to Thailand twice and frankly, the country seems to have parties and raves every other day if not daily! Even their nights don't sleep. Its streets are always full of guitarists and magicians and people are singing everywhere. It's an amazing place to chill, everyone seems so happy and relaxed. I would love to go for one of the moon parties, though. It sounds like a fun thing, to be on the beach under a bright moon, grooving to music.

This is the awesome one from the parties held in the Thailand. I also heard about this from my friends and from internet.

I took that route as well, and you're right about the boat trip! I heard that a few people drowned trying to swim across because they were drunk or high on drugs. In that state people think they're superman and forget about the rule of thumb when planning a swim crossing, estimate how far you think it is - then double it as that is more likely to be the distance!

watch out for drink spikers on the island and your stuff might get stolen, but thats about it.

try to stay on the island overnight cos the boats back late at night are totally overcrowded, very scary!

but its pretty damned fun so just watch yourself and its worth it
