Thread: Turkey accommodating for single women?

Hello there!
I'm considering an au pair position in Istanbul and I would like to know what the culture is like for a single woman in her thirties. I will be living with a family, but will have the daytime free to explore the city and want to know what it is like. I have lived alone in Latin America and have had no problem, but I know that Turkey is more Eastern. Please advise, share anecdotes, thanks!

I personally can't answer this question for you since I have never been to Turkey myself but I think this is a great question to ask yourself because of safety issues. I would be leery especially as a single woman traveling to a location you have never been with the intention of living there in particular. I would read up about the location as much as possible and the culture in relation to how women are treated/valued there. Being female, single, and living with another family where you are dependent on them for housing as well as fiances can put you in a vulnerable situation.

Its very good question about the single women accommodation issue but i think Istanbul is one of the best place for single women accommodation because it is safe city as compare to others..

Stanfordsarah! I really feel relaxed in Turkey. There is nothing bad happen to me during my trip. I did not feel anything bad about my loneliness. I can suggest you to go there without any fear. I think traveling precautions should be taken because these are important. Turkey is a nice destination. I hope you will find it safe and attractive.

men and women in turkey are so welcoming and freindly and helpful, you will be safe there. observe the local norms there and follow it, so you wil be more safe. just take common sense precautions.
