Yes. 99% of people in Turkey are registered as Muslims. 72% of which are Sunnins and the rest are Alevis (branch of Shia Islam).
Other religions in Turkey include Christian religions such as Greek and Syrian Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Catholic and Protestant.
Are you traveling to Turkey any time soon?
I don't plan on traveling any time soon, but was curious to know. I wonder, is there any animosity toward Americans and/or Christians in Turkey?
Turkey is one of the most Westernized Islamic nations (at least in the major cities and popular tourist areas). It is illegal for women to even wear headscarves and veils in government offices and most schools. Most shops and restaurants in Istanbul sell alcohol and some Turks even eat pork ham and sausage.
You shouldn't worry about any animosity towards Americans or Christians in Turkey.
Most turkish people are muslim, but many of them aren't very religious at all. You will find a lot minorities living in Turkey as well, like for example... sephardic jews. There are also kurdish people living in Turkey, some of them are very religious. The vast majority of turks are sunni muslims, as far as I know there isn't a strong presence of shia muslims in Turkey. I'd not worry about visiting that place![]()
I am a travel lover and have visited many countries and states. Recently I just come back form vegas to yosemite bus tours. I have also visited Turkey last year with my uncle. It is a beautiful Islamic country and has many attractions for its visitors. The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is a historic mosque in Istanbul. The mosque is known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior. I think it is great attraction for the tourist I want to suggest to all who have planned to visit the Turkey; they must visit blue mosque.
