    Food quality in Turkey

What are your experiences on food quality in Turkey?

A friend of mine went with her family earlier this summer and 2 of the 3 kids ended up spending the better part of the holiday in the hospital due to food poisoning. I'm wondering if you people have similar experiences or if everything went well for you?

My boyfriend spent his holiday in Turkey, he just came back 1 week ago. I couldn't join him for several reasons... so I really didn't get to eat turkish food. He did tell me he liked the food over there, he stay at a 4 star hotel and everything went great. As far as I know he didn't suffer from food poisoning over there. He avoided drinking tap water tho.. in my mother country most foreigners do that as well. Mostly because the water in my country can give you the runs, lol. It has something to do with a bacteria... the people who was born and raised there are immune.

That's a good point about tap water, I'd never touch that in a country like Turkey.

I haven't been but I have several friends who have been there. None of them experienced any problems with the food, but as has already been discussed, the tap water is definitely to be avoided. My friends with young kids also packed enough food for the kids for their whole time there so the kids wouldn't have to eat the Turkish food though, so clearly it is a concern for many people at least to some degree. If I personally were going, I'd definitely eat the local food though.

I have visited Turkey many times and I have never had such a problem. Compared to other countries, they have good-quality food and lots of choices, of course it depends where you eat. Maybe in your case, the kids weren't used to such type of food and that's why it happened to them.
