    Re: One-day stay in London

I don't remember all the places we saw in one day in London (on our trip we spent 1 whole day walking around in London before heading home the next morning.) I do remember eating at the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch tho! It was quite memorable. I had lunch there and it was delicious. We met up with a couple of friends (it was a school trip) and told them how good the food was and they wanted to go. By that time it was closer to dinner but I was still slightly full, but we all went. I really only wanted dessert but was told that at that time of day they were not allowed to serve me dessert without eating something off the dinner menu. I told her I was not that hungry but she said she was sorry it was the rules. So I ordered a salad that was huge just for my dessert

You may want to check out a tour bus that can take you on a tour of London. That way you can see the sights easily - that is what we did the first day we were in England (we only walked around London on the last day, the first day we were there was a bus ride and we did get out at certain places.)

    Re: One-day stay in London

I lived in London during the Olympic Games last year and found the city to be an amazing city to be in, both before, during and after the Games. If you're in London for the day I would recommend the following for you.

I would go with "The Original London Sightseeing Tour" which takes in sights such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge and many other local attractions. If you love a good British cuppa, I would go for "Tea Palace" in Covent Garden.
For accommodation, it depends on what you're aiming for, I would try sites like lastminute.com and trivago.

Greenwich Park and the Prime Meridian monument is amazing as it offers fantastic views of the city and it's exciting to know that you're standing in-between the West and the East.

It depends on what type of traveler you are. If you just wish to see the sights then you can try one of the tour buses outside green park station that will take you to all the main attractions. If you're more of an independent traveler then buy a one day travelcard and pick up one of the Guide to London maps, normally available in the stations, and then plan your trip via train and subway.

The good think about London is that is is comparatively small and compact compared with other cities so once you are in central London e.g. oxford circus, everything else is within walking distance or a short bus ride away.

After living there for a year, my personal favourite thing to do is walk along the South bank of the Thames. You can get off the tube at Waterloo and you'll be right near the London Eye, or you could get off at Parliament first, see Parliament, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey, and then cross the bridge over to the London Eye. You'll see lots of things along that walk, there's a large outdoor bookshop, the National Theatre, a little skate park, sand sculptures on the beach, it's a really nice stretch.

The heart of the city is not very large, so I agree with mjervey that you can get a great amount of major sights in just by walking some of the major routes.

My first day in London I have myself two major things to aim for, so I wouldn't be too aimless, and then walked between them along interesting routes and aimed for a predetermined restaurant at the end of the day.

I saw the British Museum, The War Rooms, walked across and along the Thames taking in Cleopatra's Needle, the Eye, Westminster Palace and Abbey, Trafalgar Square, plus various spots in between that I'm not remembering right now. Plus the things that you experience just by wandering, like seeing the cabs and phone booths, riding the tube, hoping on a bus, stopping at a pub when your feet hurt

So yeah, I'd recommend figuring out what you like the best (I like museums, which is why I started at the British Museum) and use that as a starting point for exploration. With such a target rich environment it's actually easier than trying to travel between places and missing what is in-between.

Visiting Piccadilly Circus is a must, and there are countless attractions around the place. Of course the Big Ben and the surrounding attractions are also a must.

I would go down the Tube (The Underground) which is the subway public transport network, which include countless historic stations, and can lead you to visit more places in a single day.

One of the stations is near the historical Highgate cemetery, that is worth a visit if you like Victorian architecture and paranormal stories associated to this place.

What is your main purpose of visiting UK? Are you going there for one day sightseeing or business purpose? If you are going for one day trip, than I can say heart of London city is not so big. So you should stay in place from where you can visit major sights by just walking. You can find Holiday Apartments in UK. Which are not so expensive and will be suitable place to stay.

Can anyone tell me about their experience on a tour for a one day in Paris. I have looked at Golden Tours, Premium Tours & Rail Europe. They all seem the same, except price. None of the posts are recent on TA. Looking to have a fully escorted tour...any info would be helpful.

Well it really depends on what your interests are. You could just head out to Hampton Court - a Royal Palace on the outskirts of London with nice gardens.
    Oxford or Cambridge are nice.

favourite place to stay is one of the Thistle Hotels alongside Hyde Park. There are two "main" Thistles - The Thistle Hyde Park and the Thistle Lancaster Gate. There is a tube stop at both Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate so everything is easily accessible from this spot.

London is a wonderful city in the world. I never visited there and I will go there. The Coleridge’s is a five star hotel, my friend suggested me this one. I want to go there and will stay there for one week. I want to know about some most famous attractions of London. What do you know about London attractions?

All members share sufficient information about London's attractions. I also visited there once and had great time there. Although London offers plenty of captivating attracitve spots, but if you wanna view them all together then must take a ride of London eye. I took advantage of it with my friends. We enjoyed london's adorable and mesmerizing views from the high point, views were spectacular. Have you ever experienced.

I love my kings dominion tour it was so amazing.

I stay The Savoy Hotel in London for one day. It was a nice hotel for me. I had spent a great time there. The Services and rooms were clean. The Staff were cooperative. I will suggest this hotel for those who want to go there one day.
