Like anyplace, it depends a fair bit on what sort of things you enjoy. But my friends went for a weekend last year and they loved the Museum of Science and Industry.

They're also big old beer drinkers, and really liked a pub called the Sandbar where they saw some comedy act as well.

I live in between Liverpool and Manchester and Manchester is similar in the way it is a friendly city with plenty to see and do but it depends on what you enjoy but as a whole Manchester is known as the "Northern Cosmopolitan capital" outside London and it's easy to see why.

Manchester has a huge Chinatown where most students go nowadays but at night the place is amazing with neon lights as well as plenty of resturants catering for all tastes, the Gay Village in Canal Street is another gem for Manchester with one of the most welcoming communities in the world as well as amazing nightlife, it's always a great place when I visit friends.
The Curry Mile in Rusholme is a great place to visit especially if you have a great appreciation for Indian cuisine.

Manchester has its fair share of history and culture if you are into that, with the Town Hall in Albert Square a masterpiece along with the Cathedral as well as its industrial past.
For culture I would strongly recommend the Central Library & Theatre by the Town Hall and The Cornerhouse and Museum on Oxford Road and Bridgewater Hall is not to be ignored either.

For the sporting kind, there is Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs if you support either of these or are interested in checking them out, they are easily accessible by public transport, Manchester also has other clubs in the region (Bolton, Bury, Oldham) if you are a football fanatic.
Rugby League is also hosted in the region with Salford City Reds but has been changed to Salford Red Devils recently (it is currently the off season)
Manchester hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games and some of the venues have remained in place like Sportscity which is where the cycling took place and is in the same area as Manchester City FC.

The Northern Quarter has some great little places to visit (think of Soho in London) with a nice mishmash of art, music and clothes with cafes open in the area (Chai Latte) is a favourite of mine.
For amazing views of the city, go to Cloud 23 (it's on the 23rd floor of the Hilton in Deansgate) but the bar is pricey.

For bars in the centre, I normally go for chain pubs but the best advise would be to ask a few locals in the area as they will have more knowledge than me in terms of eating and drinking.

Have a great time in Manchester.

Manchester is perhaps most famous for the Red Devils – Man United Football Club. A trip out to the club’s home turf at Old Trafford is well worthwhile – even if you are not lucky enough to score a ticket to a Premier League match. There are tours of the stadium every day except home match days.

It's actually pretty much impossible to get a ticket for a Manchester United game especially in the last moment. Most tickets are sold out from the start of the season to year pass members.

There is a large student population in Manchester so the nightlife and club scene is lively. Kebabs are much better than the London ones, buy yourself a donner or mixed kebab and you will get it in nan bread with a whole selection of sauces. For a good curry go to Rusholme which is lined with south Asian restaurants. Alternatively go to Chinatown but it's a lot smaller and less populated than the London one.

    Watch FC United
Manchester is a football city, famous for City and United, rivals that are now amongst the richest clubs in the world. However, for an alternative, grass roots option go and see FC United, the team formed in protest against the Glazer’s take over of Manchester United.

As we know like anyplace it depends on what sort of things you enjoy to visit.I visited the Imperial War Museum North in September 2013 and then again in October 2014. The museum is housed in a huge hangar-style building and has an open-plan layout.

The main exhibition space is split into 6 different silos each with different war-related themes. One of the most emotive exhibits is a large piece of mangled steel from Ground Zero following the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York.

Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage.About a mile south of the city, the University of Manchester is one of England's most extraordinary institutions, and not just because it is a top-class university with a remarkable academic pedigree and a great place to party. It is also home to a world-class museum and a superb art gallery.Nextly,If you're into natural history and social science, this extraordinary museum is the place for you. It has galleries devoted to archaeology, archery, botany, ethnology, geology, numismatics and zoology. The real treat here, though, is the Egyptology section and its collection of mummies.
