What is your favorite Zoo or animal park in the United States?

I live in San Diego and we have the "world famous San Diego Zoo" as it is often touted (remember it on the Tonight Show segments with zoo animals?) and the San Diego Safari Park (it was called the San Diego Wild Animal Park) where the animals run free and the people are taken through.

I have been to the Cincinnati zoo and the Detroit Zoo, which were also great. Does anyone have any suggestions or favorites?

The Smithsonian's National zoo in DC is a great zoo. It's free admission as well. The biggest thing you'll have to worry about is parking. It's the place to go, and they have baby pandas right now!

As an aside, I went to the Richmond (VA) zoo and that was an experience. Many of the animals had free reign. The lemurs were allowed to roam. They even had a sign up that said not to touch the baby lemur if you see it because it bites. They had the primates only separated by a moat, they were all on a island. I know the idea is that gorillas and orangutans don't like to swim, but it still seems pretty risky to me.

Well, I don't think the Detroit Zoo is all that great so if that's where you're setting the bar... ;-) I kid, we're members of the Detroit Zoo, but it barely ranks in our top 5.

The Toledo Zoo is surprisingly awesome. You'd think with Toledo being a smaller city it wouldn't have a great zoo, but it is better than Detroit's by far. The exhibits are newer and better planned, so you get closer to the animals, and it is much more stroller/little kid friendly so there's not so much lifting the kids up to see over walls and barriers at the old-school exhibits.

The National Zoo is quite an experience as well. I love seeing the pandas!

I really enjoy the Cincinnati Zoo. Fun fact: they are the only American zoo with manatees in captivity outside of Florida. My daughter just loves manatees, so that alone made Cinci a must-see.

While on the subject of manatees, the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa was a really cool stop too. They have an awesome Australian section; my kids loved seeing the koalas, and the manatee hospital exhibit is fascinating.

And rounding out the bunch, yes, the Detroit Zoo. While some of the older exhibits aren't all that interesting the newer additions are fabulous. The Arctic exhibit with the polar bears is the best, and the kids love the amphibian exhibit. The butterfly house is my personal favorite. And they're gearing up to build a new penguin exhibit that will be more interactive and up-close than the already-good penguin house they have now.

I would say my favorite Zoo is the San Diego Zoo, which locates in San Diego. It's the biggest Zoo I have been to, which I have spent three days there. The Zoo is so huge that I couldn't be able to visit the whole place in one day. I am an animal lover, whom I was really lucky to have a chance to visit such a place. The San Diego Zoo was such a wonderful place for those who love animals and would like to see the interactions of animals. I would love to go down there again in the future.

Next time you are in San Diego, you also have to try the San Diego Safari Park, located in a northeastern area of San Diego. It used to be called the WIld Animal Park, but I bet you would like it.

Is the San Diego's Safari Park close to the Zoo or something? Is it where the wild animals are? Thank you for your recommendation! I will keep that in mind when I go there next time.

My favorite zoo is the Bronx Zoo in New York. I went there on my honeymoon and was amazed at how beautiful the exhibits are. Their gorilla enclosure was incredible. I think I could have sat there all day and watched the gorillas interact. I know that most people love the San Diego Zoo, but for me, the Bronx Zoo was so much better.

I like the Forth Worth Zoo, perhaps one of the oldest in America because it was founded in 1909!

Which, by the way, will have a winter camp event that I would like to attend, but traditionally I stay at home in holidays season.

The only two I have been two, although they were both out of this world are Sea world and St louis Zoo.

Seaworld was just breathtaking. My favorite part was seeing the polar bears in the big dome.

St Louis zoo had a really cool variety of animals and I remember the biggest snake I have ever seen!

I loved Sea World in San Diego as a kid and I still love it today. It's no Disneyland or Singapore Zoo but I love the shows. The entrance is a bit pricey now at $84 for adults and $78 for children 3 to 9 yrs old but the Shark tank has always fascinated me and I love going there. You do get 3 shows for that price each around 20 minutes long so I think its worth it. There are also several rides and really educational exhibits.

The Zoo is by far the better experience. The wild animal park is laid out so that you must take their tram to see some of the animals. The tram ride is fairly short, crowded and costs.

I went about 5 months ago to the animal park and they were doing reconstruction work on a number of exhibits. That meant the animals were not there. If you choose to go there I would check first to make sure the reconstruction has been completed.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park is my favorite animal park in the United States because it offers fantastic opportunities to learn about different species of animals and birds. I think Mornings and Evenings are the best times of day to visit this Wild Animal Park because in the daytime between June and October; it becomes very hot. The zoo and Wild Animal park basically feature land based animals. So after you visit the zoo why not change up your environment a little and visit Sea World?
Sea World with all its shows is really fun.
Plus Sea World will be a lot cooler than the WAP.
It gets hot at the Wild Animal Park in summer.

Zoological Society of San Diego is the best society to view animals without any danger. It serves as zoo as well as a park. It is really a great fun to have the one day trip.
In Brookfield zoo indoor activities are more extensive as compared to the outdoor.
I have great love with animals that's why whenever I visit any country I must visit it's zoo.

I have visited many zoos but the London zoo is my favorite. This is the world's oldest scientific zoo and is providing a lot of scientific information. It was built in 1847. 755 species of animals have been kept there.

Moscow zoo is the oldest zoo of Europe, containing 927 species and 6000 individual animals.

Actually I have not any idea about hotels because whenever I have visited London I have stayed at my uncle's house. I went for the restaurants and hotels to take meals sometimes but I have not stayed that is why I cannot guide you in this way.

I like National zoological park as it is the oldest zoo in United States. It does not charge any fee for entry. Giant Pandas, smokey bear, great cats and many other animals are there. There is a think tank area there where they educate visitors about animal thinking and their surroundings.
