Best train trip in the US?

I have taken the train from the Midwest to California and back again and it was quite an adventure. I love trains. I have also gone up and down the west coast in California on shorter treks. Does anyone know of any interesting destinations or train trips?

I've heard the west coast has a lot to offer in this department. I heard you can get to see some really amazing view while taking that route. I've never gone down that route personally tho, so I can really tell. But this person's description was so clear and vivid... I couldn't imagine a better place to be This person made it sound as if this route was the best of the best in regards to scenery

As a railway lover, I would suggest the best trip would be the classic "Coast to Coast" from New York to Los Angeles via Chicago is often a good trip and affordable when booked in advance.

I guess for scenery depends on the traveller, you can go to Fargo and then through the mountains and the Glacier National Park before arriving into Seattle and Portland, or you can go through the entire South and go from New York to New Orleans and then pass through Houston, San Antonio before coming to Tucson and then Los Angeles. There is a good choice whatever route you take, although the choice is limited compered to Europe but there is still some amazing routes that the US offers.

A great day or weekend trip, the Hudson Valley trains take guests on a winding trip through the Hudson Valley. Visitors can enjoy seeing parts of the river that are only accessible by train. There are many great stops along the way to enjoy a day at, including Hyde Park, which is home to the Culinary Institute of America.

There are a few commonly acknowledged advantages to train travel. It is much less stressful than plane travel and it gives you time and space to read, sleep, watch movies or get work done — big advantages over cars. Its great idea to see the America through the window of train..

I love the Coast Starlight, which goes up along the California coast, I've taken it from SoCal to the Bay Area quite a few times, and it is just beautiful.

Also recommended, but more limited, is taking the train from Chicago to DC during the Fall, you get to pass through stunning landscapes when the leaves are changing in October.

I loved the trip through Chicago to Los Angeles and down to San Diego. The scenery was spectacular along this more northern route. I too love anything train related and wish more people would take the time to experience it. Even for a short trip..it is an adventure.

We had an awesome train ride from Denver to Glenwood Springs. This has to be on your bucket list. Just make sure to get into the observation car for a time.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (leaves from Battery Park) – This will take up the majority of your morning so arrive early. (For a free choice, jump on the Staten Island Ferry. bus tour to niagara falls You can't get off at the Statue of Liberty, however you will get a decent perspective of it and in addition downtown NYC)
