What states still allow smoking indoors?

I am in a non-smoking state so it comes second nature to me thinking I will go places and no one will be smoking inside. I don't want to be in for a rude awakening when I travel. What states still allow smoking in hotels and restaurants? How do you go about avoiding them? I remember back in the 80s they had "non-smoking" sections. I don't even want to be in that predicament. Any info would be appreciated.

I don't think that any of the states allow any smoking inside at all. But I could be wrong, so if I am please correct me.

Some casinos in Vegas still allow smoking as do casinos on Indian reservations. There are also some bars in new York where you are allowed to smoke as they are owner run. As well as this, some bars will kick tourists out early so that they can shut the blinds and allow locals to have an illegal smoke. Some tourists moan about this, but if you want to avoid trouble then you may as well leave quietly..

I know California has a strict no smoking indoor rule but there are still some dive bars that allow smoking inside. There were a few in Oakland that I went to where people were smoking freely. San Pablo casino also allows indoor smoking. If I am not wrong, a few cities in Texas such as Arlington still allows smoking indoor. The no smoking rule keeps widening to cover more cities and states so that might have changed.

I know that in California, the law states that you have to be a certain distance from a public entrance. That being said, most people don't walk around with measuring sticks in their hands and there is rarely anyone around to enforce the rule. I don't know of any states that allow smoking indoors, but I'm finding that more and more places are allowing smoking on the outdoor patio portion of their establishment. This is quite frustrating for non-smokers who have to walk past the outdoor seating and whiff a puff of secondhand smoke, or who don't get to enjoy the outdoor area. This has happened to me in Washington, New York(Brooklyn), and downtown Los Angeles. I think in this economy, businesses are just trying to please everyone and they want the smokers' business.
