Best Age To Take Kids to Disney World?

We are thinking about going to Disney World for the first time next Spring. My kids will be 5 and 7. I think those are good ages to take kids, but I'm not sure and my husband really isn't sure.

We just don't want to get there and be miserable because of all the lines and waiting around. I know we'll have that no matter how old my kids are, I guess I'm just looking for peoples' experiences with kids of different ages there.

If you think it'd be better to wait until they're a little older, I'd love to hear why.

    Thank you!

I think those are great ages for kids to go to Disneyworld, mth76. While it is true there are long lines at Disneyworld's most popular attractions, there are options to speed things up a bit including the "fast pass" that Disney now offers. Also, waiting in some of the lines is truly interactive for the ride ahead including movie haracters for kids to look at and talk with. Disneyworld is such a magical place that it pulls you right into the fantasy. I hope you all have a great time!

I think those are fine ages. Every time I go to Disney, I always see parents with babies or very young kids in strollers. IMO, that's a waste for the price (and surely less fun for parents, too!). Even 4 is really pushing it. But 5 and 7 should be fine, they're old enough to remember it and behave, but young enough that the experience will still seem magical. There are certain events, like character breakfasts, that are really geared toward kids this young.

If you're only planning to take the kids there once, it might be better to wait another year or two. Depending on the park, they'll be able to ride more rides and the "bigger" rides will be more fun for Mom & Dad. Though I don't plan on kids of my own, my family has always taken us and our cousins when we're around 8-10. When we brought younger kids, they often weren't tall enough to ride some rides (and as you know kids, this often led to fun spoiling tantrums and tears). Either way, though, I'm sure your kids will have a blast.

Oh gosh, you are absolutely right! I didn't think about the height rules and yes, it does cause issues when one child meets the height requirement and the other one doesn't. I'm so glad you brought this up!

I went to Disney at age 5 and so did my sister (we went every other year on family vacations) and many of the rides did not have a height requirement at all. Others have requirements of 38 inches, 40 inches, and 48 inches depending on the ride. The exciting rides definitely want you to be taller. You can get more information on height requirements here. Maybe things will go smoother if you can steer your children to the rides and attractions they can safely enjoy. Then again, it might be better to wait until they are a little older and can go on all the rides.

I was there last year as part of a conference, so it was a mixed group. I have to say it depends on the behavior/maturity level of your kids. I've seen some that are your childrens' ages act more appropriately than children who are a bit older. I think it's a great age and they would probably be really into it, because in a few years, they will be "too cool" for the family trip to Disney world. I think if you prep 'em and tell them that there will be some waiting, they should be okay.

I think that the ages of 5 and 7 are good ages to go to Disney world. There is so much too do there and so much to see. There is more then just rides, it is like a live stroybook for young kids I think. I have not been able to take my 7 year old yet cause haven't saved up enough money yet! But I can't wait to take her, I know she is going to love it.

I think that this year would be a good year to bring them, but next year could also work. You want them to be old enough to have fun, but young enough for the whole thing to be magical. Make sure they get a really good night sleep the night before. I might reccomend a multi-day pass so that you can go for a while, and then when they get tired not feel any pressure to stay any longer. There are all sorts of guides to the parks that you can find on-line so you can make a game plan. If the park you are going to has a fast pass system I would utlize that rather than wait in line for a long time with kids. Sometimes the kids rides have much shorter lines anyway. Good luck and have fun!!

Honestly? Any age is a great age to go to Disneyland. Heck, if my parents would take me to Disneyland, I'd go with them right now, no question! However, I would say that the optimum age is probably around eight-ish. That way they won't complain too much about the long lines but they'll still appreciate the magic to its fullest. However, five and seven year olds should also be fine. Just make sure you go on a nice day so that you don't have to wait in the rain or cold or anything! Probably not that much of a problem in Florida in the summer, but you never know.

I lived in Orlando for over ten years and have made many trips to the attractions with kids of all ages. I would suggest waiting a year or two. First, you want the kids to be old enough to remember the trip in detail. So many people take toddlers and preschoolers but it really winds up being a waste. In a few years your kids will be able to manage the crowds and waiting a lot better. The parks are crowded, hot and humid during the summer and you will surely get an afternoon thunderstorm. If possible I would go during the winter holidays....its always the Magic Kingdom but its really special during the Christmas season.

I think the best age to visit Disney world for kids is 7, they can enjoy better when they have their own interest in these kind of activities.

The age when they can actually enjoy the things they will get to experience there and also corning ny to niagara falls can be an idea from my side to you so that you can get to have the maximum.
