What's the best place to see the fall foliage?

With fall coming up around the corner (and I can't wait), I thought maybe it would be a good time to get some ideas for a beautiful fall drive for everybody. I like the foliage in NJ and PA, but I know there are many other states that have some beautiful fall foliage too. My personal favorite place to take a drive in the fall is the Delaware Water Gap (NJ and PA sides are both beautiful.) You are along the river and you have the mountains around with a lot of different color leaves!

What is your favorite place to take a drive in the fall?

I might be biased because I'm from there, but Maine ( as well as NH and MA) has amazing foliage in the September and October months! There is apple picking to be had and crisp weather that's not exactly warm but not cold either. It's my favorite time of year!

I can imagine that New England has some great fall foliage! When we visited Maine, it was in the summer so I didn't get to see the view. Tho Maine was quite lovely in the summer too. I wouldn't call it biased, I am from NJ so I mentioned NJ and PA It's the areas we know best!

First place that comes to mind for me is Vermont. Can you imagine taking a ski lift to the top of one of those mountains and looking at miles and miles rolling hills covered with the beautiful fall colours? I think it would really be dreamy. In Canada, I like to go boating on the Trent-Severn Canal during the peak colour change.. It's fascinating and so very peaceful.

I have never been on a ski lift, but the thought of that is pretty cool! Can you go on with if you have no intention of skiing? I am not one to go down a mountain on skis The thought scares me!

Canada is quite beautiful too so I can see it having some nice fall foliage too. I have not been on any rivers or lakes there tho, just visited a couple cities.

In off season, some resorts do run their ski lifts if there is (or they have created) a demand, like the peak colour weekend. They just slow them down a bunch so it's more about the ride on the lift than it is to get a bunch of people up to the top of the hill to ski down. Not all resorts do it, not all have a reason to, but some offer huge slides (almost like a luge or something), hiking and other activities which keep at least one of their lifts operating off-season.

Makes sense if you think about it, more resorts should do it to offset a bad ski season due to warm weather and lack of snow.

I like NJ best, but there isn't much like seeing mountains cloaked in red, gold, and marigold orange. For that I like some of the lower states. That said I bet folks get very upset about the wave of tree watchers that come through every Fall or so.

Here is a list of some New England mountains that offer ski lift use for leaf peeping.

I am a bit biased....but the Appalachian Mountains are beautiful in the fall. The drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is spectacular.

I like the foliage in Indiana/Michigan near the lake. It's lovely to hike through the Indiana Dunes in fall. There's also a lot of great u-pick orchards for apple picking!

That would get my vote too. We have lovely autumns here in Michigan but something about the way the colors all mix and blend when you're up in the mountains looking down across valleys makes it that much more spectacular.

My second choice would be my home state. Not only are the leaves beautiful, there are plenty of places to pick apples or pumpkins and get fresh-pressed cider and still-hot apple cider donuts.

I'm from PA, and so I can attest to the great fall foliage there, but you're right there are plenty of other areas with great fall views, too! I always imagined New England falls to be especially charming and beautifl, though I haven't been able to visit yet myself.

It's probably one of the few places in AZ that I can say this about, but Flagstaff can be quite beautiful that time of year.

You can do all that pumpkin picking and apple cidering in Georgia and North Carolina as well.

Here in NC the Blue Ridge Parkway is the way to go! It is so beautiful. The scenery is spectacular and of course stopping along the way to visit the apple farms is a big plus in the fall as well! The site also mentioned a few places to stop along the way. I highly recommend Linville Falls as well as the hike into the Linville Caverns. Another wonderful fall spectacular is the Biltmore Estate.

I would like to say all of you that you have shared great information about fall foliage. It is a best place to enjoy exciting views of nature beauty. I visited there about six months ago with my elder sister. We stay there for few hours and had an awesome experience there. It is an ideal destination for adventure and nature lovers. Tourist can enjoy there different activities like nature viewing, hikking, camping and photography.
