What is your state famous for?

I live in NJ which is known as the Garden State. We are "famous" for some of our vegetables like Jersey fresh corn and the Jersey tomato. We have great soil to grow these veggies. But there is something that we are famous for that tourists come to visit each year and that is...

The Jersey Shore! Not the show, that is not what we are really all about here. The Jersey shore is a place that many people come to enjoy with their families. It is a fun place and I would miss it if I ever moved and couldn't visit it easily!

So what is your state famous for that others would love to know or visit?

In Massachusetts, especially Boston, we are known for our high concentration of colleges and universities. Just hanging out for a day at Harvard Square makes me feel young again.

I live in California. I'm not 100% sure what were most famous for, but Lake Tahoe, LA, Silicon Valley, San Diego, Death Valley, and the Gold Rush are all some things that I have heard people associate with California as something it is famous for.

What I've always heard is that California means movie stars! Of course, it's a giant state, and there's absolutely nothing glamorous about the place that I grew up. San Francisco is also something of a world icon; people come from all over the world to walk across Golden Gate Bridge, or the famous sixties hang-out of Haight-Ashbury Streets. There's a lot for us to be proud of in SF, and I'd like to think that it could be more icon than Los Angeles, but... I know that's not true. For a lot of the world, California is movie stars, Hollywood, and surfing!

I'm from the state of Maine. We are of course famous for lobsters and our ocean scenic views. Fresh seafood and coastal towns!

It's funny about California. Growing up I assumed California was filled to the brim with movie stars, until I realized that even people that live in Southern California may have not spotted one before.

I'm from Illinois and I'm pretty sure the only thing anyone ever remembers about us is that Abe Lincoln is from there...

I'm from Texas (was born there) , but no longer living there. I guess my state is famous for its tex mex food, cowboys, the rodeo... :P That's on the positive side tho, there are other things that Texas is known for, and those are not very positive. Like for example: cheaters & the death penalty I think Texas is more than that tho... I've met people who have a very poor opinion of my native state, but their opinions are just biased! Some of them haven't taken the time to actually visit my state.

Oh yes, the lobsters in Maine I am getting hungry just thinking about it! Right off the boat and onto the plate just about.

I remember hearing years ago that you had a better chance of running into a famous person in NYC then you did in California, but I don't know if there is truth to that.

I'm from Michigan, and I'd like to think that brings to mind the Great Lakes and all the natural beauty of being surrounded by water. Unfortunately these days, more people seem to think of Detroit, poverty, and decline.

Pennsylvanian (from Philly) here. Philly is famous for it's cheesesteaks and pretzels, while Pennsylvania is more famous for... having the greatest number of cult groups of any state. Honestly, besides Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the rest of the state gets real (insert Deliverance music here), real quick.

It was my experience Cammie that the Detroit area is very different from other areas of Michigan. I especially enjoyed the UP.

I'm in Georgia (the peach state) and it's known for it's southern hospitality, southern cooking, as well as Martin Luther King's birthplace along with the King Center, the (Jimmy) Carter Center as well as The Margaret Mitchell house who wrote Gone with the Wind. A number of celebrities also live in the suburbs of Atlanta.

It really is. I love both, and live essentially on the border of the two - just over an hour out of Detroit, in the middle of cornfields and rivers, but still close enough to go into the city when the mood strikes. But Detroit's image on the national stage is terrible, unfairly so in my view, so I prefer when people think of my state they think of the UP, the Lake Michigan beaches, the incredible fishing, and the rest of that side of things.

Like the other Californians I have a hard time picking a single thing. LA has Hollywood, the San Francisco Bay Area has Silicon Valley. Then there are things like surfers in the middle

But as a state I'd have to say a reputation of "out-there-ness" maybe?

We are famous for our salmon runs and apples. I'm not sure what else we might be famous for, other than the Space Needle and ferry boats.

    Aside from terrible English?

I mean a reputation for being a little "out there". You know; wacky hippies and crazy alternative thinkers
