Have Ever fallen For A Tourist Trap?

I don't mean like those cheesey South Of The Border signs that advertise for miles on the way to Florida, but like actual oddities. Though I'm sure some consider it odd haha

For example, when we were driving through either Arizona or New Mexico we kept seeing huge signs on the highway for a good hour advertising for "The Thing". Finally the exit for "The Thing" was near us, but we opted not to stop.
I looked it up and it was a mummified something or other with a small gift shop.

I've heard of bug rodeos, biggest ball of string, etc being tourist traps as well.

No I have never fallen for a tourist trap, however, I have heard a lot of interesting and amusing things about them. Still I wouldn't like to get caught in one of them.

On route up to Oregon from California, you can drive through a redwood tree trunk that was hollowed out. It's exactly what it sounds like: a tunnel (a fairly long one, considering) through the stump of a huge tree that was cut down by loggers. It's an immense tree trunk, but once you've driven through it and then walked around the circumference (which is pretty intense all by itself, let me tell you), you're more than ready to leave. They had a cute little gift shop, though, and it was a fine enough place to park a station wagon full of preteens for lunch. We had a pretty good time there.

That sounds really neat! That would be worth a few pictures or videos. Maybe not exciting for more than a half an hour, but hey, that's good enough, right? Thanks for sharing!
