    Road Trip Or Fly?

If you had the money to do both, which would you pick?

If money wasn't an issue, we'd get the truck all tuned up and head out on the road. Flying is a pain!

If money is not an issue and I have more time to spend, then I will definitely go with road trip. By doing so, I will have a chance to view different places, I can stop anytime I want to explore the place and continue the trip after.

A third option you might consider is to take the train. You can't get out and walk around but you do get to see a lot of beautiful scenery across America. Although ticket prices are more expensive than driving buying in advance will usual snag a decent discount. I've traveled most of the way across country by car, train, bus, and airplane, and definitely like train the best if time isn't a factor.

With or without lots of money: Roadtrip all the way. The USA is a country to see by exploring. It's so diverse and with some many weird towns and roadside attractions, I feel that you lose something by seeing it any other way.

    Re: Road Trip Or Fly?

To me the issue with a road trip is less money than time. When I travel I usually have a specific destination or destinations in mind and a limited amount of time to see them due to the fact that I work full time and only get so many vacation days a year. I live on the east coast, so if I want to go to California, or even Illinois, driving simply isn't an option. If I had unlimited time, a road trip across the country would certainly be fun. Maybe after I retire

I agree that time is more of a factor than money. If I had unlimited vacation days, it would be great to take a road trip because I could stop anywhere I wanted along the way.

I think an old fashioned train ride with a sleeper car would be a nice in-between option too!

    Re: Road Trip Or Fly?

For me, time is the problem more than money. I love road tripping but these days I feel lucky if I can find even 5 days that work for my whole family's schedule so flying is more practical unless we're staying very close to home.

I do think different trips call for different methods of travel...while I adore roadtrips, I'd have to go with flying as a general bet. Unlimited money to travel all over? Most of my picks would be fly-worthy!

Very good points! For me money is always an unfortunate factor, but I forgot that time is as well. It could take a good five days just to get somewhere. Another few enjoying the place and then driving back. You'd need a good month off.

If time wasn't an issue I'd be road tripping all over the place! I don't like to fly; I'm not as frightened of it as I used to be but it is still a stressful experience. So if I didn't have to plan trips around work, school, sports, and everything else my family has going on we'd probably never fly unless we were leaving North America.

I'll cast my vote it with Ramagu and opt for the train. I've taken the Coast Starlight and the Zephyr, and would love to take some of the other long routes through the US, plus someday cross Canada as well.

But if my only two choices were car or plane, then definitely car. I adore road trips.

I'd have to go for flying, but as you said, flying can be such a pain sometimes! Specially if you're traveling to a place that is very far, like when I've to travel to europe. It's a real pain, but it's the only way to get there! It's also super expensive!! I'm going to the Netherlands next year, but the price of the plane ticket will leave me with a really huge hole in my pocket! I think that flying is convenient if you want to get to a place really fast, but if you're more into adventuring and sightseeing, then a road trip is the way to go.

I know what you mean! Flying could get you from Maine to Florida in a few short hours, which isn't bad, but flying overseas is such a drag. Really anything where there is more than one flight and one of them is 8 or more hours straight.

    Re: Road Trip Or Fly?

It's my dream to have a road trip from East to West coast! However, you need a lot of time to do that, since you don't want to just pass by with a car everywhere. I would like to do a road trip to stop by in some cities, check what's out there, sleep somewhere one day, somewhere else the next day.A road trip like that takes time and can also be more expensive than flying. So I would really need to gather time and money for one of those.

Well, since I am absolutely terrified of heights and therefore flying. I think that road trips can be a lot of fun if you go with the right people and have the right sountrack.. safe travels!

Both have their own qualities. Airways decrease the time and skip all the adventurous and beautiful scenes which comes during road trip.
