Famous Hotels from Classic Movies filmed in the US

The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island was featured in the movie "Somewhere in Time" starring Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeves. A sister hotel designed by the same architect is the Hotel Del Coronado, south of San Diego's downtown and was featured in "Some like it Hot" with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe.

Both are beautiful and movie buffs love them. Do you have any Hotels of TV or movie fame that you have visited?

Yes. I visited the Stanley Lodge, the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. Spooky.

The Hyatt Regency San Francisco has a gorgeous atrium lobby, where I used to have drinks with friends on a weekly basis.

It was used as a film location in several movies, including High Anxiety, The Towering Inferno, and one of my favourites; Time After Time.

If you loved the movie "Oceans Eleven" with George Clooney and Julia Roberts then you need to go to the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Unfortunately at $375 to $6,000 a room, the sight seeing won't come cheap. If you are a Julia Roberts fan then The Beverly Wilshire in the film Pretty Woman is a MUST SEE! And yes just like in the movie the elevators have seats. You do need anywhere from $600 to $1,600 for a suite though.

Well it's located on one of the nation's best beaches according to a poll done last year. So even if you don't snap a ghost, you will still have a great time. It is over a large bridge that spans San Diego Bay (well and that has its history too) and you are a hop skip and jump from the San Diego downtown, zoo and world famous Balboa park.

No thanks on that one. I would be waiting for Jack Nicholson to chop through the door! I wonder if they even have that scarey carpeting in the hallway where... I can't and won't think of that scene.

I love the Grand Hotel, so elegant and romantic. We don't stay on the Island when we visit but we always make a point of having a meal there.

The one I would very much like to see someday is the Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia, where they filmed Dirty Dancing. The Blue Ridge Mountains are so very beautiful and the resort looks incredibly lovely and romantic. And the movie has been one of my favorites ever since I was a kid too young to understand about half the plot.

I actually live and work on Mackinac Island so yes I have visited The Grand Hotel ^^. A fun fact about Somewhere in Time though--part of it was actually filmed at Mission Point Resort, which isn't too far off, but the sound room there is haunted and some startling activity occurred that caused Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour to refuse to continue filming there.

I visited the Mariotte Marquis in Atlanta that Muhammed Ali visited. He had a movie about his life that displayed the same hotel. The funny thing is I visited in 1999 and the movie was filmed in the 70's and it looked exactly the same.
